Additional Sanctions on Russia’s Technology Companies and Cyber Actors

The United States will continue to impose serious costs on the Russian Federation in response to President Putin’s illegal war.  Today, we are targeting entities and folks in our efforts to shut down the Kremlin’s sanctions evasion networks, which enjoy an critical job in the Russian Federation’s capability to carry on its unconscionable war on the citizens of Ukraine.  This follows our March 15 and March 24 designations of people and companies in Russia’s protection-industrial foundation that are specifically supporting Putin’s war equipment.

Currently, the United States is designating 21 entities and 13 people.  Of those being designated, 10 of people people today and 17 entities are concerned in sanctions evasion networks to procure of western technological innovation.  These designations will additional impede Russia’s accessibility to western technological innovation and the international economic system.  We will go on to target President Putin’s war machine with sanctions from every angle, right until this senseless war of choice is around.  The Russian Federation not only proceeds to violate the sovereignty of Ukraine with its assaults, but it is escalating the devastation of population facilities, including educational institutions, hospitals, residential spots, and places in which civilians are using shelter from the Russian bombardment.

The United States is also designating three persons for their involvement in malicious cyber activities, one particular of whom the Section of Justice indicted  last 7 days.  The United States will continue on to maintain President Putin’s cyber actors to account for disruptive, harmful, or otherwise destabilizing cyber activity targeting the United States and its allies and associates.

In addition to the sanctions imposed right now, the Department of the Treasury is also growing its Russia sanctions authorities.  The Secretary of the Treasury, in session with me, identified the aerospace, marine, and electronics sectors of the Russian Federation financial state pursuant to section 1(a)(i) of Govt Order 14024.  This permits for sanctions to be imposed on any particular person or entity identified to operate or have operated in any of these sectors and gives an expanded capability to swiftly impose extra economic expenditures on Russia for its war of option in Ukraine.
